Domestic Solar Hot Water
Solar Hot Water is the most cost effective way of introducing solar thermal and renewable energy into your home and provides the quickest return on investment.
A typical residential domestic solar hot water system has between one and three domestic hot water collectors and a storage tank. Generally the sun heats the collectors and the energy is then transferred through a heat exchanger to the domestic hot water.
The first example shows the popular two collectors plus solar tank with integrated electric backup. This design is popular across many parts of the U.S.

The second example shows solar energy providing pre-heat to a boiler-driven hot water tank. This option is popular in cold weather climates where natural gas or propane is common.
